I was treated to some lovely weather today while I visited Carefree Farms in north Phoenix. When my friend Aly let me know her new horse had arrived (all the way from Canada!) I jumped at the chance to see an old friend and to snap some photos of her and the Thoroughbred she calls Ray.

A little background here, I know Aly from my riding days back in Pennsylvania as we were both were a part of the United States Pony Club chapters in our region. We kept in touch as many do via Facebook, and when she moved out to Arizona I was excited to have another friendly face (not to mention a lovely rider) join me in the Valley of the Sun.

Ok, ok. now that we’ve gotten past the nostalgia, on to the photos from today :). Not only did I get to meet Aly’s horse Ray, I also got a couple of shots of Elaina and her horse Cosmo (the bay in some of the earlier photos) as well as a few of Christine’s extremely photogenic AJ, the other bay, while he was getting hosed off after a workout.

It was so much fun to get out and get my requisite horse and photography time in — it’s been far too long since I’ve done either! I tinkered a bit with my big lens on the EOS M but I didn’t keep track of which photos came from which camera after putting them all into web format.
